Your First Step

Toward Recovery

Scheduling and completing an assessment with an addiction health care professional will allow you to further understand your diagnosis and the health care options that may help you the most. Beginning a treatment service will require that an assessment is completed so that we can offer you the best care possible. Whether you were self referred or referred by someone else, the assessment summary with recommendations will provide what you need to take your next step forward.

Assessing The

Path Forward

If you are ready to find out more about how your substance use relates to your health and what is recommended as a next step by an addiction health care professional, give us a call and schedule your assessment today. There are in-person and telehealth-from-home options available to best fit your preference for receiving this service. By completing an assessment, you will be able to begin an addiction treatment service at CKF or from another provider if you so choose.

Scheduling

After scheduling an assessment, you will complete necessary paperwork that will assist us in better understanding you, your situation, and how services will be paid for. Do not worry, CKF Addiction Treatment has state Block Grant funding available for those who do not have insurance or the ability to pay for services. For those who have insurance, we will bill through your insurance company, and for those who are self pay, we have a sliding scale fee available based on your income. The full cost of an assessment is $150.

Assessment

On the day of your scheduled assessment, please arrive to our office, or be ready to sign in from home, a few minutes early. This will allow our clerical staff to ensure that everything is in order before meeting with one of our Licensed Addiction Counselors for the assessment interview. The Licensed Addiction Counselor will have reviewed the paperwork you submitted and be ready to go through a structured interview with you that includes speaking about your current and past substance use as well as biological, psychological, and social areas of your life that may have been impacted by substance use.

Diagnosis

The interview usually lasts about 1 hour and will conclude with the Licensed Addiction Counselor talking to you about your diagnosis and recommendations. Having a diagnosis means that enough criteria for addiction, or a Substance Use Disorder, have been met and will help guide the process of what services will provide you the best care. If there is not a diagnosis, there still may be resources that can help you as you manage moderate to high risk substance use so that an addiction does not later develop.

diagnosis and recommendations

A summary with diagnosis and recommendations is available to you.

If you were referred by a health care provider, we can send one to them as well with a release of information signed. If you were referred by a court or legal setting, we will provide an assessment summary with diagnosis and recommendations to whomever referred you. The legal setting sometimes refers to this assessment summary as an ‘evaluation’, but do not worry, we have you covered.

Completing an assessment does not mean you are required to begin treatment services, but it does mean that you now have access to more of your own health information which can be empowering. If we do not know about our own health, how will we know when we should seek health care? You will now have that information. If 60 days or more lapse following the assessment before you decide you would like to start treatment, we will need to complete an updated assessment. This is required by the state of Kansas and allows us to understand if there have been changes that occurred within that time that would further affect your diagnosis and recommendations for care.
