For Who
The YES Program is designed for youth, ages 12 to 18, who have been identified as having some degree of involvement with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, but whose use has been evaluated to be at an early stage.
The Goal
The goal of the YES program is to introduce the young participants and their family members to the insights and tools needed to effectively respond to the challenge of adolescent substance use.
Involvement
The program requires the attendance of not only the young person, but also at least one parent or guardian. Substance abuse is a problem that affects all members of a family system and is a challenge for both the young person and parents alike. It has been proven that the greatest success with educational programs such as YES occurs when both youth and parents are involved. Both parents are encouraged to attend whenever possible.
Who Should Attend YES?
- Any individual ages 12 to 18 may participate in the YES program when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Service agencies, schools, families or the court system may make referrals for the program. This is a prevention/intervention program that can benefit any individual who is beginning to become involved with substance use and who has already experienced some degree of negative consequences due to this use.
Similar programs are available for individuals over the age of 18 and who are no longer living at home or in a structured environment.
Who Facilitates the
Program?
